Self-healing plastic becomes biodegradable

Chemists from Constance led by Helmut Cölfen have now presented the next generation of their mineral plastic in the journal Small Methods. The plastic is produced without solvents and can be converted back into its flexible structure by adding water, making it recyclable.

Rotary solenoids (also bistable)

Rotary solenoids are on-off actuators for defined rotary movements; they are reset via a spring; bistable rotary solenoids can move actively in both directions and are particularly suitable for dynamic applications such as shutters and sorting systems or when heating is critical.

Breast cancer diagnosis by fingerprint

A team of scientists at Sheffield Hallam University is now said to have succeeded in detecting breast cancer from fingerprints with an accuracy of 98 per cent. With this, they would have developed a method of detecting breast cancer that is non-invasive.
